Salt Water Chlorinator Systems Marbella
A Salt Water Chlorinator is a swimming pool disinfection system which produces a natural and ecological form of chlorine. The pool water is slightly saline at around 5g/Litre, which is about ten times less salty than sea water or as salty as a tear drop.
How does Salt Water Chlorination work
Saline water passes through an electrolysis cell, fitted into the swimming pool filtration system, the salt molecules in the water are then automatically broken down to form hypochlorous acid which is a highly effective disinfectant that kills micro-organisms and impedes algae growth.
The active ingredient of chlorine is broken down by the effects of UV radiation from sunlight, that is why after chlorine tablet dissolve in the water it is not long before there are no traces of chlorine in the water.
However, unlike chlorine tablets, the chlorinator constantly produces its own chlorine from saline water. This helps to give you peace of mind knowing that your pool water is always safe to swim in.
Salt Water Chlorination has less additives
Salt water chlorinators are far more ecologically friendly compared to factory produced chlorine tablets and Chlorine liquids, which often include additives. Natural chlorine helps to make water softer, avoiding dry irritated skin and sore eyes.
In most cases the iodine in salt water can actually help to reduce irritated skin conditions. However, as with any form of water disinfection, medical advice should always be sought in cases of extreme skin conditions.
Over a period of time, due to pool cleaning and backwashing of the pool filter, the salt level of the water will start to fall. When this happens more salt will be required. The units are fitted with low salt alarms to indicate when this is necessary.
It is also important to note that due to the high levels of calcium hardness in the Marbella area, the electrode system will require occasional cleaning. This is simple and quick to do and can be either carried out by the pool owner/gardener or by Marbella Pools & Spas.
pH and water disinfection
As with any other form of chlorine it is essential to maintain the water pH between 7.2 and 7.6 in order for it to work efficiently. Tap water in the Marbella area can often be as high as 8.2.
